About This Course
In an increasingly climate affected world, the role of green technology in helping economies transition from unsustainable to sustainable models of production is crucial. The drive towards a more climate friendly economy is moving solar technology from a niche to mainstream in the busi- ness and investment world. Solar is used in many sectors, including, in agriculture. Agriculture plays a critical role in Kenya’s economy, as a gen- erator of exports, employment and food security.
If a climate friendly future, in which the income and food needs of Kenyans are to be sustained, then agriculture must transition from where it is now - a sector that generates enormous carbon emissions - to operating on a more climate friendly basis, including adopting technologies that enable it to do so. The transition to a greener agricultural future requires finance, which is where the investment community, including banks, must play their role.
This new e-learning course, consisting of 4 interlinked modules and 3 illustrative case studies has been created to give Kenya’s banking community a greater understanding of the drivers, risk and opportunities for investing in green tech agriculture.
The overall objective of this module on Solar Technology in Agriculture is to give Kenyan banks and their loan officers a foundation of understanding, so they can be better prepared for vetting solar technology loan applications, and grow the size of their solar tech- nology portfolio in pace with evolving opportunities in the market. Now let’s begin!
